About Department of Psychology
Psychology Dept. was established in 2011 in Khalsa College Patiala. This Dept. works on the betterment and welfare of the students to make them self-sufficient. Courses that come under the psychology Dept. are Masters of Arts and Bachelor of Arts. Counseling sessions are also available to the students who are in need.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT:
1) Basic understanding and implementation of psychology in different fields.
2) Enhance the career options in different branches (like counseling, sports, DRDO, scientists, law, etc).
3) Encourage students to assist other sections of society who are unable to take care of themselves.
4) Empower students to apply their knowledge and skills for personal and social development.

PG Programmes
- Master of Arts in Psychology
Masters of Arts in Psychology is a two years post graduate level master's degree program. This program empowering students to achieve academic excellence and a fully functioning human life. Trained students in psychology testing and explain its results in a comprehensive way. Involve students in community-based extension activities. To sharpen students' focus in relevant research activities. Empower students in the use of theory, assessment and psychology in a variety of sectors, including counselors, clinical, sports, crime, organizational assessment. Trained students provided counseling services in the area of ​​internal concerns. Make the students comprehensive in implementing basic and applied research. Students will prepare with different perspectives for more job opportunities and higher education.
Programme Specific Outcome (PSO):
During M.A. (Psychology), Students will be able to:
- PSO1: Create a strong research oriented theoretical foundation in accordance with recent advances in the discipline of psychology.
- PSO2: Enable students to take a creative, empirical and ethical approach to the program that combines conceptual repertoire and research practices in both quantitative and qualitative traditions.
- PSO3: Empower students in the use of theory, assessment and practicability in psychology.
- PSO4: Understand the basic concepts of the applied and action research in psychology.
- PSO5: Participation in this course will provide the student an introduction to the processes involved in clinical work and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

- Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is a three year undergraduate program that helps to scientific study of behavior and how to implement psychological tools to analyze the behavior of others. Students can develop familiarity with basic concepts related to some foundational themes of study in psychology such as learning, memory, perception, and thinking. Students can identify the importance of experiments in the field of memory and learning in the practical world. This program examines relationship between behavior (Cognitive, Affective, Connative) and mind with the help of manipulate research variables in order to discover different branches of psychology.
Programme Specific Outcome (PSO):
During B.A. (Psychology), Students will be able to:
- PSO1: Introduce students to the basic concepts of the field of psychology with an emphasis on applications of psychology in everyday life.
- PSO2: Develop familiarity with basic concepts related to some foundational themes of study in psychology such as learning, memory, perception, and thinking.
- PSO3: Examine relationship between behavior (Cognitive, Affective, Connative) and mind with the help of manipulate research variables in order to discover different specialized social, clinical, cognitive, neuroscience and developmental issues.
- PSO4: Examine unusual patterns of human behavior, emotions and thoughts understood from the clinical context and identifies multiple causes for different conditions, employing diverse theories from general psychology.
- PSO5: Includes adaptive and maladaptive causes with different biopsychosocial perspectives in relation to different therapies on basis of different disorders.
